Committed Usage Discounts (Commits)

What is a Committed Usage Discount (Commits)?

Volume-based committed volumes discounts (Commits) provide a discount in exchange for your commitment to a minimum volume for a pipeline offering (platform, enrichment, data source, etc). The discount applies to that set of eligible resources.

You must purchase separate spend-based commitments for each resource that Commits are available for. The Commits are organization wide, and apply to eligible usage in any pipelines of your organization account.

A Commit is pre-determined volume of usage that is locked in for the billing cycle, and pre-paid. A simple formula to illustrate the usage is:

(DVUs commitment volume + usage exceeding commitment) X (discounted price) = Component Cost

Commits are not packages

It is important to note that Committed Usage Discounts (Commits) are pre-purchased volumes to benefit from volume discounting. They are not packages, and as such, are not limits or caps on your usage.

Datastreamer offers a pay-as-you-go platform, and Commits are a tool to optimize your costs to your expected volumes.

Are Commits required?

As Datastreamer operates a pay-as-you-go model, Commits are not required. However, many components, especially those from our partners, support (and may require) minimum volumes to be offered. These are reflected with minimum Committed Usage Discounts, as there are minimum volumes required for the delivery of their sources, enrichments, and other offering.

How to reduce costs using Commits

In addition to where Commits are required for usage, commits are a great way to get cost reductions in higher volumes of content, and can reduce the cost of a component by 70%+.

There are no extra fees that occur if you exceed a commit, and extra usage above your commit is priced by the price determined by your commit. There is also no account locking that occurs if a commit is exceeded.

Some components may also have the benefit of being part of a bundle. This allows you to set one commit where the DVU usage will be shared across multiple component. For more information on bundles, you can see the detailed page here: More Info.

Changing Commit levels or adding Commits

Changing commits and are required to have prior notice before a new billing cycle. A notice period of changing commits is detailed in your usage agreement.
